Description We are looking for an Assistant Controller to join a financial services organization in Tustin, California. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to core accounting operations, support accurate financial reporting, and help strengthen internal processes as the team continues to grow. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and experience working in environments that demand precision and regulatory awareness.
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day leadership for a small accounting team, beginning with two direct reports and expanding team oversight as business needs evolve.
Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure timely, accurate reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Oversee core accounting activities, including reconciliations, month-end close tasks, and the maintenance of reliable financial records.
Partner with leadership to improve accounting workflows, strengthen controls, and support efficient department operations.
Guide team members on priorities, performance expectations, and career development within the accounting function.
Support audit readiness by organizing documentation, responding to requests, and maintaining well-structured financial records.
Apply industry knowledge to address accounting matters common to financial services or lending environments.
Assist with special projects and process enhancements that improve reporting quality and operational effectiveness. Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Demonstrated accounting experience with the ability to prepare and analyze financial statements.
Prior experience supervising accounting staff, with the capability to manage a growing team.
Background in public accounting is preferred.
Experience in financial services, lending, or a similarly regulated industry is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when managing financial data and documentation.
