Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Municipal Treasurer to oversee the financial management and fiscal operations of our local government entity. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in safeguarding public funds, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing transparent financial reporting. This dynamic position offers an exciting opportunity to lead critical financial functions, support community development, and promote fiscal responsibility through expert management of municipal resources. The Municipal Treasurer will be at the forefront of financial stewardship, driving initiatives that foster trust and accountability within the community. Duties Manage all aspects of municipal cash management, including overseeing banking relationships, investment strategies, and liquidity planning to optimize fund utilization. Prepare, review, and present comprehensive financial reports that adhere to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements for public entities. Conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliations, accounts receivable and payable processing, and general ledger accounting to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data. Lead the development and monitoring of annual budgets, providing forecasting insights and financial analysis to support strategic planning. Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and other relevant regulations affecting governmental and non-profit accounting practices. Oversee payroll processing, account reconciliation, and accounts payable functions using accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms. Prepare regulatory reports required by state or federal agencies, including audit documentation and internal control assessments. Collaborate with auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation related to governmental accounting standards and internal controls. Implement best practices in technical accounting procedures related to double-entry bookkeeping, account analysis, and financial concepts to maintain transparency and accountability. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred. Extensive experience in governmental accounting or public sector finance management. Proven expertise in cash management, financial report writing, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis. Proficiency with QuickBooks. Demonstrated ability in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and technical accounting procedures. Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare clear financial reports for diverse audiences including elected officials and community stakeholders. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data accurately. Pay:
$39,520.00 - $47,840.00 per year
