full-time Client Overview Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing construction services organization looking to add an Assistant Controller to their growing team. Salary/Hourly Rate $125,000 - $140,000 Position Overview The Assistant Controller will partner closely with the Controller in overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, construction accounting, and acquisition-related growth. This role will own the month-end close process, review reconciliations, prepare financial reporting packages, support audits, budgeting and forecasting, strengthen internal controls, and mentor accounting team members. Responsibilities Of The Assistant Controller Manage and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process. Maintain the month-end close calendar while ensuring department deadlines are consistently met. Prepare and review monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity for accuracy. Analyze financial results and investigate budget-to-actual variances. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives. Monitor cash flow, working capital, and key financial performance indicators. Support construction accounting functions including AIA Billing, lien waivers, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and project profitability analysis. Coordinate the annual external audit process, including management of the Prepared By Client (PBC) request list. Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies. Support tax compliance and external reporting requirements. Mentor and provide guidance to accounting staff across the department and serve as an escalation point for technical accounting questions. Support acquisitions, accounting integrations, and special projects as the organization continues to grow. Act as a trusted business partner and backup to the Controller when needed. Required Experience/Skills For The Assistant Controller 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience. Previous experience in a management position required. Construction accounting experience is required. Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proactive mindset with a continuous improvement approach. Preferred Experience/Skills For The Assistant Controller Experience with Procore, Microsoft GP, NetSuite, Sage, or similar ERP systems. Experience working for a medium-to-large General Contractor or commercial construction organization. Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions or multi-entity accounting environments. Knowledge of subcontractor accounting, AIA billings, lien waivers, and over/under billings. Experience mentoring accounting staff and leading process improvements. CPA or CPA-track is a plus. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA eligibility is preferred but not required.
