Job Description

The Assistant Director of Finance assists in directing the city's finance operations. Supervises personnel and daily operations of the department; reviews and approves journal entries; reviews all payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable entries to ensure accuracy and completeness. Assists the Director in the development of accounting procedures and the administration of the budget. Performs the duties of the Finance Director in his or her absence. Maintains the accounting system to ensure smooth operations; identifies and resolves problems with software and related applications for users; provides training and answers questions. Monitors the maintenance of financial and cash controls to ensure compliance and to minimize loss. Prepares journal entries and reconciliations of DSDA. Monitors employee benefits and reconciles monthly insurance reports. Assists in preparing and maintaining the annual budget, including compiling data, researching information, and forecasting budget projections; monitors the budget monthly. Oversees and monitors project and grants accounting; reviews policies and procedures. Works closely with the auditor and the Finance Director during the annual audit; assists in compiling the annual comprehensive financial report. Oversees and monitors the asset list. Interviews and hires staff; prepares performance evaluations; implements disciplinary actions as necessary. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; Three (3) years of Accounting or Finance experience; Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public finance, budgeting, accounting, and public administration; government auditing procedures; and relevant federal and state laws; Skills in strategic planning, organization and decision-making, preparing and presenting concise and logical written and oral reports; and Valid State of Georgia Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of Accounting or Finance experience. The selected candidate must complete the following requirements prior to starting with the
