Clear succession path into CFO Highly visible role with direct exposure to ownership and executive leadership About Our Client I'm currently partnering with a growing, well-established general contractor near Hinsdale that is looking to hire a hands-on Controller with a clear path to CFO! This will be a highly hands-on role with broad responsibility for the day-to-day accounting and finance operations of the business. The Controller will oversee financial reporting, job cost accounting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls, while ensuring compliance with GAAP and construction industry standards. This individual will work closely with project managers, operations leadership, and ownership to support business decisions, drive financial visibility, and help manage the company's continued growth.
Job Description Controller Responsibilities:
Lead the day-to-day accounting and finance functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger management, and month-end close activities. Own job costing processes, WIP reporting, project financial tracking, and profitability analysis across active construction projects. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for leadership. Partner with project teams and ownership to monitor budgets, forecast financial performance, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Oversee cash management, banking relationships, lines of credit, and bonding requirements to support ongoing operations and growth. Ensure financial compliance, maintain strong internal controls, and coordinate with external accounting partners on audits, tax matters, and year-end reporting. Provide financial support related to insurance, workers' compensation, claims, and other operational business matters. Drive process improvements, strengthen reporting capabilities, and help scale accounting procedures as the company continues to grow. Serve as a key business partner to ownership by delivering meaningful financial insights, reporting, and recommendations to support decision-making.
