Job Overview We are hiring a Director of Finance (CPA) to lead the review and reconciliation of historical accounting records, strengthen day-to-day financial operations, and build financial systems that support continued growth. This hands-on leadership role works directly with ownership to improve financial accuracy, internal controls, and decision-making. Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish is required to communicate with our team, explain financial findings, and support daily operations. Core Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Review, correct, and maintain historical and current general ledger records. Investigate accounting discrepancies and prepare corrections supported by source documentation and appropriate approvals. Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, payment clearing accounts, and balance sheet accounts. Lead a timely and accurate month-end close. Prepare monthly financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows. Verify payroll postings, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and other closing entries. Inventory & Cost Accounting Oversee accounting for high-value 14K gold and precious-metal inventory. Reconcile inventory records and item-level costing to the general ledger. Coordinate physical inventory reconciliation and investigate discrepancies with the inventory team. Review inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, purchasing cutoffs, returns, and inventory movements. Prepare proposed inventory adjustments with complete documentation and designated approval. Accounts Receivable, Payable & Cash Flow Reconcile accounts receivable and payable to supporting records. Review aging reports, unapplied payments, customer deposits, and vendor balances. Support enforcement of approved customer credit terms and collection procedures. Oversee payment accuracy and coordinate vendor balance confirmations. Improve cash-flow reporting and visibility into upcoming obligations. Systems, Controls & Process Improvement Manage and improve Zoho Books and related accounting systems. Support chart-of-accounts mapping, opening-balance validation, and reconciliation between systems. Design and document accounting procedures, approval requirements, and internal controls. Establish a monthly close checklist with clear responsibilities and review requirements. Collaborate with inventory, sales, and operations to improve financial processes. Leadership & Governance Serve as the senior financial resource for ownership and the accounting team. Guide and support accounting and bookkeeping staff. Communicate financial findings, unresolved discrepancies, and recommended actions. Coordinate supporting records with external accounting and tax professionals. Operate within defined authority, with designated approval for material adjustments and policy changes. Required Qualifications Active
U.S. CPA
license. Professional proficiency in English and Spanish, including the ability to explain accounting issues in both languages. At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close and account reconciliations. Direct experience with inventory accounting in wholesale, distribution, retail, or manufacturing. Demonstrated experience correcting historical accounting issues and improving financial processes. Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation. Strong Excel skills and experience analyzing detailed accounting data. Ability to investigate discrepancies, document conclusions, and communicate concerns to leadership. Ability to work on-site in Lafayette, Indiana. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Zoho Books, Zoho Inventory, or comparable integrated accounting systems. Experience with accounting migrations and reconciliation between operational systems and the general ledger. Experience with jewelry, precious metals, serialized products, or other high-value inventory. Experience supervising or guiding accounting staff. Compensation & Benefits Annual base salary of $90,000-$105,000. Paid time off. Relocation assistance.
