Summary/objective The VP of Finance reports directly to the President and serves as the senior financial leader of the company. The VP of Finance owns the company's financial reporting, planning, treasury, and risk management functions — leading a team of direct reports and serving as a key operational partner to the President in driving financial performance, compliance, and long-term business health. Financial Reporting & Compliance Ensure all accounting and finance procedures are consistent with GAAP, GAAS, and applicable federal and state requirements. Oversee timely preparation of monthly financial statements, productivity reports, and full balance sheet reconciliation; maintain internal controls supporting a clean audit opinion. Ensure accounting systems, ERP platforms, and financial reporting tools are properly maintained and support a strong internal control environment. Lead formulation and approval of annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and cash flow projections at the department level. Oversee all tax filings at the city, state, and federal levels and ensure ongoing compliance with corporate standards. Business Analysis & Planning Partner with the President on business plans and financial strategy supporting corporate growth and long-term strategic evolution. Analyze business results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis; recommend changes that improve the long-term financial health of the company. Provide guidance on management of resources, assets, investments, and expenditures — including predictive modeling and leading indicators. Develop and maintain business intelligence tools and reporting systems that enable management to make timely, informed decisions. Treasury & Banking Serve as the primary point of contact for the company's lender relationships; manage all associated credit facilities supporting operations and growth. Ensure compliance with all lender reporting requirements and provide lenders with regular performance summaries and financial updates. Manage cash efficiently to promote sustainable financial health; monitor and project cash flows in partnership with the President and CEO. Arrange and maintain lines of credit appropriate to the company's operational and strategic needs. Ensure the company's banking relationships reflect its reputation for financial credibility, transparency, and integrity. Risk Management & Hedging Monitor the company's cattle and feed risk management programs, ensuring price exposure is managed within approved parameters. Maintain detailed working knowledge of agricultural markets and derivative instruments — including cattle futures, options, and grain/feed hedging tools — and ensure proper accounting and reporting of all positions. Own risk compliance reporting — providing accurate, timely, and complete position reports to the President, CEO, and Board on a regular basis. Manage insurance programs across workers' compensation, general liability, casualty, property, and auto coverages; interface with brokers, providers, and claims adjustors. Capital Expenditures & Fixed Assets Manage the capital request and budgeting process; review and analyze expenditure requests against strategic and financial criteria. Complete rigorous analysis on proposed purchases, including ROI studies, alternative considerations, and business expansion opportunities. Monitor and report capital asset expenditures and depreciation; ensure capital allocation decisions support long-term growth objectives and balance sheet discipline. People & Leadership Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance team with direct reports; set clear expectations, invest in development, and create a results-oriented environment. Partner effectively across the senior leadership team and with cross-functional leaders, building credibility and trust beyond the finance function. Demonstrate the integrity, executive presence, and relationship skills required to represent the company credibly with lenders, auditors, the Board, and external stakeholders Operate effectively in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment — driving toward clarity and solutions while managing multiple priorities with resourcefulness and discipline Perform other duties as assigned. Travel required Up to 20% Required education and experience Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; MBA strongly preferred. CPA or CMA designation preferred. 10 + years of direct experience in finance and accounting, with demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, internal controls, and systems integration. Strong agricultural finance experience required; cattle feeding industry accounting experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of GAAP and all applicable accounting principles; proficiency in ERP systems and business intelligence platforms. Detailed knowledge of agricultural markets and derivative instruments used for risk management purposes.
