Job Description

Description A growing, vertically integrated real estate development and construction platform is seeking a Controller to lead accounting operations and financial oversight across its development and construction portfolio. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building and managing the company's in-house accounting function, with a strong emphasis on financial reporting, cash management, balance sheet integrity, and internal controls. Why This Role? + Opportunity to build and own the accounting function for development and construction + High visibility role working directly with ownership and senior leadership + Clear path to expand scope and influence as the organization scales + Exposure to both accounting leadership and strategic project finance + Growing pipeline of development projects in an entrepreneurial environment Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting + Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across development and construction entities + Ensure preparation of accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements + Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations + Maintain strong balance sheet integrity, ensuring all accounts are properly supported and reviewed Cash Flow & Construction Finance Oversight + Oversee project and corporate cash flow tracking and forecasting + Manage construction draws, loan requisitions, and lender reporting processes + Monitor project budgets and costs, ensuring alignment with accounting and reporting Team Leadership + Build, mentor, and manage the accounting team + Create structure, accountability, and development plans for team members + Foster a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement Audit, Tax & Compliance + Serve as primary contact for external auditors and manage audit process + Coordinate with tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely filings + Ensure compliance with reporting requirements, including lender and investor needs Operational & Project Collaboration + Partner with development and construction teams to align financial reporting with project activity + Support leadership with accurate financial data for decision-making + Provide insight into project performance and key financial drivers Requirements Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance + CPA preferred + 8-12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility + Experience within real estate development, construction, or project-based environments preferred + Strong expertise in financial reporting, close processes, and internal controls + Experience with construction draws, WIP/project accounting, or lender reporting + Proven ability to build or improve accounting processes and infrastructure + Strong systems experience (ERP/accounting platforms) and advanced Excel skills Robert Half is the world's first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
