Fully Onsite On behalf of our client, we are seeking a hands-on, experienced Controller to join its leadership team in Beltsville, Maryland. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity reporting directly to senior leadership and is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys leading teams through growth and change. This company is part of a larger organization undergoing significant transformation, including integration efforts and a planned ERP transition. This role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact by leading accounting operations, strengthening oversight, and supporting a high-performing finance function. Key Responsibilities Lead the monthly close process and help ensure timely, accurate financial reporting Review account reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting schedules Manage day-to-day accounting department operations Supervise and review the work of approximately 14 employees across accounting and payroll Oversee payroll processes, including union and certified payroll Maintain compliance within a SOX-controlled, public company environment Partner with leadership and parent company stakeholders on reporting, approvals, and financial oversight Provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the accounting team Support process improvements and help drive efficiency during ongoing organizational change Qualifications Active CPA required Proven experience in a Controller-level leadership role Strong accounting oversight, review, and team leadership experience Construction industry experience strongly preferred Public accounting background highly preferred Experience working in a SOX-compliant and/or public company environment required Union payroll experience is a plus Certified payroll experience is a plus Ability to thrive in a changing, growth-oriented environment Collaborative, positive, and proactive leadership style Work Environment Fully onsite in Beltsville, MD Flexible start times available: 6:00 AM
