Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to provide steady financial leadership for a growing organization in Silver Spring, Maryland. This Long-term Contract position will focus on strengthening accounting operations, improving confidence in financial reporting, and preparing the organization for a successful year-end audit. The ideal candidate will bring sound judgment, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to bring structure and consistency to a finance function during a period of change.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead preparation for the fiscal year audit by organizing schedules, reconciling key accounts, and helping ensure supporting documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Oversee the month-end close process, reviewing entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports to confirm timely and reliable results.
  • Evaluate federal grant accounting activity to verify compliance, proper classification, and alignment with reporting requirements.
  • Review the accuracy of overall financial statements and identify areas that require correction, clarification, or stronger controls.
  • Provide guidance on appropriate accounting treatment for current and prior-period activity so records can withstand audit review.
  • Use QuickBooks Online to monitor ledger activity, assess reporting integrity, and support clean, well-documented financial operations.
  • Help stabilize the accounting function by introducing consistent processes, advising stakeholders, and supporting continuity within the finance team.
  • Analyze high-growth financial activity related to increased property sales and ensure transactions are reflected correctly in the books.
