Job Description

Position Overview:
The Controller is a key member of the Club's leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring the integrity of accounting processes, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the Club's mission, goals, and long-term stability. This position manages the accounting department, oversees budgets and forecasts, and works closely with department heads and the Board of Directors/Finance Committee to provide timely and accurate financial information.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct all accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions for the Club. Prepare monthly financial statements, forecasts, variance analyses, and key performance indicators for management and the Board. Oversee all general ledger activity, reconciliations, and cash management. Develop, monitor, and manage annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department heads. Ensure compliance with GAAP, local/state/federal regulations, and Club policies. Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payroll, A/P, A/R, and member billing. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Partner with external auditors and tax professionals during annual reviews and audits. Manage insurance, risk management, and internal control procedures to safeguard Club assets. Provide financial analysis to support capital projects, pricing strategies, and membership initiatives. Collaborate with the General Manager and Board on long-range financial planning and cash flow forecasting. Serve as the primary liaison to the Finance Committee and Board Treasurer.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred. Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a private club, hospitality, or resort environment. Strong knowledge of GAAP and best practices in club financial management. Proficiency in club accounting software (e.g., Jonas, Northstar, ClubEssential) and Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proven leadership skills with a hands-on, collaborative management style.
