Job Description

Job Summary The Plant Controller will lead all financial management, reporting, and analytical functions for our Port Huron, MI manufacturing operation. This role serves as a key business partner to plant leadership, driving financial accuracy, cost control, and operational insight to support continuous improvement and profitable growth. This position requires a hands-on finance leader who is comfortable owning the details of the accounting process while also providing forward-looking financial analysis to support operational decision-making. The ideal candidate has strong experience in manufacturing finance, standard costing, and variance analysis, combined with advanced Excel capabilities and the ability to translate operational data into meaningful business insights. This role is ideal for a finance professional who enjoys working directly with manufacturing operations and influencing plant performance beyond the traditional accounting function. Key Responsibilities Lead all site-level accounting, cost accounting, and FP&A activities in compliance with corporate policies and GAAP. Own the integrity of the plant balance sheet through timely account reconciliations, accurate inventory valuation, and oversight of site-level cash management, ensuring compliance with corporate accounting policies and strong financial controls. Maintain hands-on ownership of core accounting processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory accounting, and month-end close to ensure financial accuracy and strong internal controls. Own and continuously improve the standard costing system, including material, labor, and overhead rate structures. Partner with operations and engineering to analyze production variances, scrap, yield, and rework drivers, translating findings into actionable cost improvements. Manage monthly close and reporting cycles, ensuring timely and accurate P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis. Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes to ensure accurate inventory valuation and strong internal controls. Leverage ERP systems, Spreadsheet Server, and advanced Excel tools to automate reporting, dashboards, and operational performance analytics. Support corporate FP&A with plant-level budgets, forecasts, and financial modeling. Provide forward-looking insights into operational performance, margin trends, and working capital management. Support development and monitoring of key operational KPIs including scrap %, yield, labor efficiency, inventory turns, and manufacturing cost absorption. Champion a data-driven, KPI-focused culture by partnering closely with operations, supply chain, and engineering to improve financial and operational performance. Lead and mentor the local accounting team while strengthening financial processes and internal controls. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred). 7+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing finance or cost accounting. Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and absorption accounting. Advanced Excel skills including financial modeling, Power Query, and data analysis. Experience with manufacturing ERP systems (IQMS / DELMIAWorks preferred). Demonstrated experience supporting plant leadership with financial insights and operational decision support. Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights.
