POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller position at Dan and Jerry's Greenhouses is a hands-on role with personal involvement in the day-to-day operations of the business. The Controller is responsible for providing financial leadership and oversight of the company's accounting and financial reporting functions within a complex greenhouse horticulture environment. This position ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information while developing and maintaining accounting processes, internal controls, and systems that support the company's continued growth. The successful Controller will combine strong technical accounting knowledge with an understanding of operational drivers. The position is expected to provide accurate financial insight, strengthen financial discipline, develop the accounting team, and help leadership make informed decisions that improve profitability, efficiency, and long-term business performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(comprehensive, but not limited to): Financial Accounting & Reporting Guide and supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including GL, AP, AR, payroll accounting, fixed assets, cash Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements. Manage the month-end and year-end close process, including account reconciliations and journal entries. Ensure financial records comply with GAAP and company policies. Costing & Inventory Reporting Oversee accurate inventory valuation and production costing for plants, growing supplies, and other inventory. Facilitate cross-functional efforts to build a robust costing framework that enables accurate measurement of profitability. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning Prepare budget templates, schedules, historical comparisons, and supporting financial data for department leaders. Monitor actual results against budget and historical comparisons, provide variance explanations. Cash Flow Manage daily/weekly cash flow forecasting, particularly during peak production and sales periods. Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and borrowing levels. Financial Controls & Risk Management Maintain effective internal controls over cash, inventory, purchasing, payroll, and financial reporting. Oversee compliance with company spending and purchasing policies. Coordinate annual audits, tax work, insurance audits, banking requirements, and other external financial reviews. Maintain a strict level of confidentiality concerning Dan and Jerry's Greenhouses strategic and financial positions. ERP Management Ensure financial, inventory, production, and operational data are accurately integrated into the ERP. Continuously improve ERP processes, controls, and reporting capabilities. Leadership & Team Management Inspire, lead, develop, and hold the accounting/finance team accountable. Establish clear accounting procedures, deadlines, and responsibilities. Improve processes and eliminate unnecessary manual work. Develop team capabilities in financial analysis, ERP utilization, and internal controls. Serve as the primary financial resource for department managers. Other responsibilities/tasks/projects as assigned.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Certifications such as CPA or CMA desired, not required. 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with increasing responsibility. 2+ years of Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable financial leadership experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate a high-performing accounting and finance team. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and internal controls. Strong knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and tax compliance. Knowledge of cost accounting, inventory valuation, production costing, and gross margin analysis. Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and working-capital principles. Strong ERP skills, including the ability to improve processes, reporting, and data integrity. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines. Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively work autonomously, while always keeping CFO informed of critical data. Strong personal presence with excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills. Practical, pragmatic, hardworking and committed. Passionate, driven, with high personal integrity. Motivated by providing service to others, delighting internal and external partners. Demonstrates a strong work ethic, flexible with work hours, and willing to be available when necessary. Does what it takes to get the job done.
