Job Description
Finance Director Town of Lake Lure, NC Located in western North Carolina, the Town of Lake Lure sits in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge, only 30 miles east of Asheville. The Rocky Broad River winds its way through a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gorge, and the crystal-clear water flows through the valley that feeds Lake Lure. The Town encompasses 13.2 square miles, including the 720-acre lake with a large central body of deep water, three long bays, a seven-acre island, and many small bays and inlets with picturesque backgrounds of forest-clad hills and mountains. The Town has a permanent population of approximately 1,365, with an in-season population of over 12,000. The Town has become a destination for tourists worldwide, with 27 miles of beautiful lake shoreline, a beach area, and a marina. The Finance Director serves as the Town's chief financial officer and oversees the Finance Department's operations, including accounting, treasury, investments, budgeting, utility billing and collections, and other financial functions. Reporting to the Town Manager, the Finance Director exercises considerable independent judgment in managing the department, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and adhering to generally accepted accounting principles. The position plays a key role in safeguarding the Town's financial resources and supporting the organization's overall financial planning and operations. The Town has 43 employees and an approved FY2026 total budget of $10.1 million, including an $8.8 million General Fund. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, public administration, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred. Candidates should have ten (10) years of experience in finance administration, preferably in local government, including at least five (5) years above the first-line supervisory level.
