Job Description

Position:
Controller About the Role A growing business unit within a larger global software organization is seeking a finance and accounting leader to lead its finance and accounting function. This role is heavily accounting-focused, with direct ownership of financial reporting, month-end close, revenue recognition, internal controls, and team leadership. This role partners closely with functional leaders to provide financial insights that drive pricing, forecasting, project profitability, and strategic decision-making. This is a highly visible role on the business unit leadership team with 2 to 3 direct reports and meaningful influence on the direction of the business. Key Responsibilities
  • Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting Direct oversight of all accounting operations, including record to report, order to cash, and procure to pay Lead month-end close, reconciliations, and internal reporting to ensure timely and accurate financial results Prepare and review period-end variance reports and commentary Maintain documented accounting policies and procedures and enforce internal controls Ensure compliance with applicable reporting standards for all monthly and quarterly financial reporting Coordinate, analyze, and present financial performance to executive leadership Key Responsibilities•Revenue Recognition and Project Accounting Oversee percentage of completion revenue recognition, aligning revenue with costs incurred, effort expended, or milestones achieved Monitor individual customer contract performance and key financial metrics Work with functional leads to ensure project bids and contract terms align with financial and corporate parameters Key Responsibilities•Forecasting, Pricing, and Strategic Finance Own the quarterly forecasting process, including pipeline analysis, cost review, and key assumptions Lead financial analysis for new product initiatives, including cost assessment, revenue forecasts, and lifetime profitability Partner with the business on market pricing, deal structuring, and sales strategy Monitor and enforce KPIs across the business unit Provide corporate tax support, including transfer pricing and state revenue allocations Key Responsibilities•Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2 to 3 finance and accounting professionals Set clear performance expectations, conduct reviews, and foster a collaborative team environment Build sustained long-term capability within the finance function Qualifications•Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional accounting designation strongly preferred 10 plus years of accounting and or finance experience with at least 5 years in a finance management role Strong understanding of revenue recognition, particularly percentage of completion or project-based methods Experience with financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close Proficiency with ERP systems, planning tools, and CRM platforms Willingness to travel within North America up to 15 percent Qualifications•Preferred Blend of public accounting and industry experience; candidates from small to mid-sized business environments tend to fit well Tech, SaaS, or subscription-based business experience is a plus Experience with forecasting and planning tools such as Adaptive Insights or similar Familiarity with ERP transitions or implementations Work Environment Periodic travel for business reviews and team collaboration Standard workweek of 40 to 45 hours Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
