Job Description
Position Overview The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, audit management, and team leadership within a nonprofit or healthcare environment. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls while supporting organizational leadership with financial insights. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting Oversee the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Review general ledger accounts and identify material adjustments or issues Analyze revenue and expense trends and present findings to leadership Prepare and review financial reports for internal and external stakeholders Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and financial transactions Audit, Tax & Compliance Lead the annual external audit process and coordinate audit requirements Oversee tax-related filings including Form 990 Ensure compliance with regulatory and funding requirements Maintain and strengthen internal controls; identify and report any deficiencies Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with tax regulations Budgeting & Financial Planning Support development of the annual operating budget Track and manage financial reserves, reimbursements, and expenditures Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making Team Leadership & Operations Supervise finance staff, including workload management and performance evaluations Review and approve timesheets and ensure timely task completion Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development support Ensure cross-training and continuity within the finance team Process Improvement & Risk Management Identify financial risks, inefficiencies, and process improvement opportunities Lead or support initiatives to enhance financial operations and reporting quality Support accounts payable, purchasing, and other finance functions as needed Communication & Collaboration Serve as a key financial liaison to leadership, auditors, and external stakeholders Communicate financial updates and issues clearly and professionally Collaborate with internal teams including HR on staffing and operational needs Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelor's degree in Accounting required Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred Active CPA license required Experience Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or behavioral health finance preferred Proven experience managing audits, Form 990, and grant/government funding Core Skills Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills Ability to interpret complex financial data and support decision-making Excellent communication and interpersonal skills High level of integrity and confidentiality Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Preferred Skills Experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar Familiarity with Medicaid billing, cost reporting, and regulatory reporting requirements Experience in community-based or healthcare-focused organizations Work Environment & Requirements Ability to access multiple work locations as needed Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (if required) Must be able to pass required background checks
