Job Description:
A leading global insurance organization is seeking a AVP Accounting to join its finance team. This highly visible role will partner closely with underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, reinsurance, and technology teams to deliver accurate financial reporting, business insights, and operational support for a growing specialty insurance portfolio. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting leader with strong insurance industry experience who enjoys driving financial analysis, managing reporting processes, enhancing controls, and partnering with senior business leaders. Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of specialized insurance reporting and financial results. Coordinate with internal departments and external business partners to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Oversee the preparation and analysis of underwriting profit and loss statements, balance sheet accounts, and key operating metrics. Deliver financial reporting, analysis, and actionable insights to senior leadership and business stakeholders. Ensure compliance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting principles while maintaining reporting accuracy and consistency. Oversee accounting activities related to premium recognition, cash application, commissions, reserves, claims activity, and reinsurance transactions. Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses, identifying trends, variances, and key business drivers. Partner cross-functionally with underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, reinsurance, and technology teams to support business objectives. Support internal and external audit activities, including SOX compliance, risk management, and internal control initiatives. Mentor and develop accounting staff while promoting a collaborative, high-performance team environment. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA and/or MBA. 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience within the insurance or reinsurance industry. Prior management or team leadership experience. Strong background in financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. Deep understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting principles. Experience presenting financial information and business insights to senior leadership. Advanced Excel skills required; experience with ERP systems.
