Job Description

Position Overview A privately owned, multi-entity operating company in Southern New Jersey is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead and manage its accounting and financial operations. This is a senior-level, hands-on position for an accomplished accounting professional who is comfortable taking full ownership of the accounting function across multiple operating entities . The Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing reporting and month-end close, overseeing cash flow and financial obligations, and providing senior leadership with timely, reliable financial information. We are looking for someone who is proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented and accountable . The successful candidate will anticipate deadlines and financial needs, maintain current and accurate reconciliations, identify issues early, and bring both concerns and solutions to management. The Controller is expected to take ownership of the accounting function without requiring constant follow-up . Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle accounting across multiple operating entities Lead monthly close and produce accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting Maintain accurate general ledgers, supporting schedules and financial documentation Own accounts payable from invoice receipt and approval through timely payment Ensure invoices, company credit cards and other financial obligations are accurately recorded and paid on time Ensure sales taxes, Atlantic City Luxury Tax, payroll-related obligations, insurance premiums, debt obligations and other required filings and payments are completed accurately and on time Complete monthly bank and credit-card reconciliations and ensure all accounts remain current Prepare annual operating budgets and financial forecasts across multiple entities Monitor actual performance against budget and investigate significant variances Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts and provide leadership with visibility into upcoming cash requirements Manage intercompany transactions, balances and reconciliations Identify unusual expenses, discrepancies, trends and potential financial issues proactively Reconcile POS activity and deposits to accounting and bank records Process and support payroll, audits and reconciliations Oversee accounting related to operating businesses and real estate holdings Coordinate with outside accountants, financial institutions, insurance professionals and other advisors Maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls and procedures Maintain complete, organized and audit-ready supporting documentation Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and company information Provide senior leadership with clear, timely financial analysis and actionable information Immediately communicate cash shortages, missed payments, late filings, overdrafts, penalties, reconciliation discrepancies or other material financial issues to senior leadership What Success Looks Like Success in this position means: Financial reporting and month-end close are accurate and completed on schedule Bank and credit-card reconciliations are completed monthly and remain current Accounts payable is organized, accurate and paid according to established terms Taxes and other required financial obligations are filed and paid accurately and on time Leadership has clear visibility into cash positions and upcoming financial obligations Budgets and forecasts are maintained and regularly compared with actual performance Financial discrepancies and potential problems are identified early Concerns are communicated promptly along with recommended solutions Issues are followed through to resolution Financial records and supporting documentation remain organized and audit-ready Accuracy, confidentiality and deadlines are treated as personal responsibilities Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of Controller, Assistant Controller or senior-level accounting management experience Demonstrated ability to independently manage full-cycle accounting Advanced hands-on QuickBooks Online experience required Strong general ledger, bank and credit-card reconciliation and month-end close experience Experience preparing annual operating budgets, forecasts and budget-to-actual reporting Experience managing accounting for multiple companies, locations or legal entities simultaneously Strong Microsoft Excel skills Demonstrated responsibility for accounts payable, cash management and financial reporting Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and operate independently with minimal supervision High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential financial information Preferred Qualifications Experience with multi-location operating businesses Experience accounting for real estate holdings or multiple legal entities Experience with POS systems and reconciling POS activity to bank deposits Experience working directly with business owners, CFOs or senior leadership Compensation & Benefits $100,000-$125,000 annual salary, based on experience Benefits provided in addition to salary Health insurance with company contribution Dental insurance Vision insurance Life insurance Retirement plan with 3% company match Paid time off Paid sick time Paid company holidays Stable, year-round employment

Are you willing and able to work full-time, in person, five days per week in Ocean City, NJ? If hired, would you have any other employment, consulting work or ongoing professional commitments that would continue while employed in this full-time Controller position?
