The Assistant Controller will support the Controller, the VP of Accounting and the CFO in managing the organization's financial strategy, oversee financial reporting, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and drive operational efficiency. This role is crucial in maintaining the company's financial health at scale while ensuring seamless financial operations in alignment with organizational goals.Job Summary:
Under the direction and guidance, as needed, of the Controller the assistant Controller will be responsible for:Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Assist in managing the general ledger to ensure that all accounts are maintained in accordance with GAAP. Perform account reconciliations at the established regular cadence (e.g. Monthly, quarterly, annually, etc . ) . Conduct financial and variance analysis, providing actionable insights to executives to support strategic decision-making. Lead the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reportingBudgeting and Forecasting:
Provide support as needed for budgeting and forecasting initiatives. Monitor budget performance against actual and recommend corrective actions as needed.Internal Controls and Compliance:
Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance. Assist in preparing for audits and addressing regulatory requirements (including state and local taxes). Assist with tax filings, compliance reporting, and liaising with external tax advisors as neededOperational Leadership:
Manage banking, ACH, and credit card requirements, ensuring that all payments and transactions are completed timely and are well-supported. Ensure that all month end processes are completed on time and with the best data available.Team Participation and Management:
Share knowledge and work collaboratively with team members and other JEGS associates. Ensure organizational knowledge documentation and redundancy through knowledge sharing across the organization. Along with the Controller, act as a liaison between the Accounting team and other departments to ensure collaboration across functions. Assist in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.Process Improvement:
Support the Controller and the VP of Accounting review, document, and improve accounting systems and processes to increase operational efficiency, reporting accuracy, and timeliness. Leverage and support technology solutions such as ERP systems to streamline workflows.You have:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience. 2-3 years of experience with complex financial statement preparation and analysis. Retail Accounting industry experience is strongly preferred. Experience with inter-company account reconciliations a plus. Use of ERP type software a plus. Advanced level of knowledge of Word and Excel required. Working knowledge of Access and Power Point a plus.Benefits:
