We have an open position for an experienced Controller. The Spring is a faith-based nonprofit serving those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking and are searching for safety, advocacy, and restoration. Job Summary The Controller oversees the organization's financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial management. This role manages all core accounting functions, leads financial reporting, oversees grant accounting and compliance, and supports leadership with financial analysis and forecasting. The Controller ensures strong internal controls, timely reporting, and effective stewardship of organizational resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
AccountingFinancial Management Manage all daytoday accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and cash management Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Manage month-end and year-end close processes Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures Coordinate annual financial audits, providing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries Assist with cash flow management and longterm financial planning Work closely with the Executive Team, program managers, and development staff to align financial practices with organizational goals Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations BudgetingFinancial Planning Lead the development of the annual operating budget in collaboration with leadership and department managers Prepare budget-to-actual reports, analyze variances, and provide recommendations for corrective action Support long-term financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making Grant Accounting, ReportingManagement Oversee all grant-related financial activities, ensuring compliance with grantor requirements and organizational policies Establish and maintain grant budgets, tracking allowable expenses restricted/unrestricted fund and ensure proper allocation Prepare and submit grant financial reports, reimbursement requests, and supporting documentation on schedule Monitor grant spending to ensure compliance with award terms and organizational policies Maintain detailed grant files, including award letters, budgets, amendments, and reporting schedules Collaborate with program staff to ensure accurate tracking of deliverables and financial performance Support grant proposal development by preparing budget narratives, cost allocations, and financial projections. Serve as the primary point of contact for grantors regarding financial matters. ComplianceProcess Improvement Maintain and improve the organization's accounting software, ensuring accurate setup, reporting, and integration with other systems Identify opportunities to streamline processes, automate tasks, and strengthen financial workflows Develop and document financial policies and procedures Ensure secure and organized financial recordkeepingEDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA required;CPA, CMA
a plusQUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred Experience with grant reporting and compliance Proficiency with accounting software (e.g.; QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills required Must be able to sign The Spring's Statement of Faith A valid driver's licenseSKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE
