An Assistant Controller assists the controller in managing the cash flows and financial activities of an organization. Assists in the development of budgets, regulatory and tax compliance, staff development and other accounting and financial duties.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial operations of OHR Rents by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and assisting with month-end close, reporting, and analysis. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and sound judgment in handling confidential company and client information.
OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE
Execute month-end close, general ledger account reconciliations, accurate financial reporting, and data verification, enabling senior staff to analyze options and make financial decisions aligned with company objectives. Monitor policies and procedures for assigned departments, and identify and suggest improvements for accounting reports and procedures. Study existing and recent legislation to ensure compliance with national and local financial requirements. Continue professional education by participating in webinars, workshops, and networking events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead monthly, quarterly, half-year, and year-end financial closes, including assigned journal entries, balance-sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of operational management accounts. Perform general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and identify and correct errors made by internal and external personnel. Provide schedules and commentary for operational management account results and variances, and for the production of working-capital cash-flow reports. Maintain and update records and reports for profit and loss, taxes, liabilities, and assets. Prepare special financial reports, when requested by senior managers, by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends. Lead accounts receivable (AR) collections. Ensure compliance with company policies, corporate finance procedures, and applicable regulations. Maintain strict confidentiality of company and client financial information. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls. Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller or
CFO. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 3-5 years of professional accounting experience. Working knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Knowledge of accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and client information. Desire to continue professional growth through training and continuing education. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Strong written and verbal communication skills. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS CPA
(Certified Public Accountant) license or active pursuit of CPA certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily sedentary work; requires sitting at a desk and working at a computer for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day). Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment (printer, copier, phone). Occasional need to stand, walk, bend, or reach to access files, supplies, or office equipment. Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds occasionally (e.g., file boxes, office supplies). Visual acuity sufficient to review financial documents and read a computer screen for extended periods. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with employees, vendors, and clients. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a professional office environment in Cleveland, Ohio, on a hybrid schedule combining in-office and remote work.
