Check us out at www.eswagner.com Position Summary The Assistant Controller / Accounting Systems Analyst plays a key role in supporting the company's financial operations by ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and optimizing accounting systems and workflows within a complex construction environment. This hybrid role combines core accounting and financial management responsibilities with systems analysis to enhance automation, data integrity, and workflow efficiency across the finance function. The position works closely with the CFO, IT, and cross-functional departments to ensure the company's accounting infrastructure effectively supports both operational and strategic business needs. This is a full-time, on-site position based in our Oregon, Ohio office. Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Reporting Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations. Assist with consolidations, intercompany transactions, and variance analysis. Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies. Assist with internal and external audit preparation and support audit requests. Provide support to the Payroll Department as needed, including serving as backup coverage for Payroll Administrators during absences. Internal Controls & Compliance Monitor and enhance internal controls across financial processes, such as verification of vendors and review of packing slips, across financial processes. Document accounting procedures, update accounting policies, support internal compliance frameworks (as applicable), and assist in developing new workflow documentation for the Vista software Identify risks or control gaps and propose remediation steps. Systems Analysis & Optimization Serve as a subject matter expert for accounting integrations and supporting software that feed into the Accounting Department (e.g., HeavyBid, HeavyJob). Analyze current workflows and recommend improvements for automation and efficiency. Enter and manage accounts receivable activities, including job billings, subcontractor payments, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance documentation. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Track and coordinate system upgrades, enhancements, and patches affecting accounting and construction management software. Partner with IT to support system implementations, integrations, and new tool evaluations. Work with operations, HR, Contract Coordinators to streamline end-to-end workflows. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting. 3-7 years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to both accounting and ERP or systems administration. Experience in a corporate or public accounting environment; construction or project-based accounting experience preferred. CPA or progress toward certification preferred but not required. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting. Ability to become technically proficient with Trimble Construction 1 Vista and other supporting software. Advanced Excel skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Excellent communication and ability to collaborate across teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
