Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a nonprofit organization. This role offers a collaborative environment, a flexible hybrid schedule, and a strong emphasis on work-life balance. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in fund-based nonprofit accounting, provide steady leadership to the finance team, and help maintain accurate, compliant financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the organization's day-to-day accounting activities and ensure financial records are maintained accurately and in accordance with nonprofit reporting standards.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements and related reports for leadership and key stakeholders.
Manage and mentor a small accounting team, providing direction, reviewing work, and supporting skill development for three direct reports.
Administer fund accounting processes to track restricted and unrestricted resources appropriately and maintain compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.
Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation practices to support audit readiness and financial integrity.
Coordinate the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to help leadership make informed financial decisions.
Partner with external auditors and other advisors to support annual audit activities and ensure timely completion of required filings.
Review financial documentation and reporting workflows, including the organization and processing of accounting records, to improve efficiency and accuracy.
