Controller Who We Are:
National Technical Institute (NTI) is a growing trade school focused on providing hands-on, career-focused training that prepares students for success in skilled trades. We are committed to delivering practical education that leads to real-world opportunities, while continuing to scale and strengthen our operations across multiple campuses.
Job Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance functions of the organization. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, maintains strong internal controls, and supports organizational decision-making through reliable financial reporting. The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting functions and play a key role in building scalable financial processes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations Own the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, journal entries, and reconciliations Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures Financial Reporting & Compliance Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements Serve as primary contact for external audits and coordinate audit preparation Manage tax filings and partner with external tax advisors Cash Flow & Controls Monitor cash flow and maintain appropriate controls over financial transactions Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets Review and approve vendor payments, payroll submissions, and key financial transactions Process Improvement Identify and implement improvements to accounting systems and workflows Support automation and standardization of financial processes across campuses Improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency Team Leadership Supervise and mentor accounting staff Provide training, guidance, and performance management Support hiring and development of the accounting team
Qualifications:
4-5+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong experience with general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting Experience managing audits and internal controls Experience working in multi-entity and/or multi-location environments (required) Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Preferred:
CPA or CPA-eligible Experience leading or mentoring a team
