Job Description
Position Summary Swamp Fox Agency is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury management, and regulatory compliance functions for both the agency and its affiliated captive insurance company. This position plays a critical leadership role in maintaining the financial health of the organization while supporting strategic growth initiatives. The Controller will work closely with agency leadership, department managers, external auditors, tax professionals, captive managers, actuaries, and regulatory agencies to ensure accurate financial reporting, sound financial controls, and compliance with all applicable regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting Direct and oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and general ledger activities. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure financial records are maintained accurately and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Manage month-end and year-end closing processes. Monitor agency profitability and provide financial analysis to support business decisions. Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Captive Insurance Financial Oversight Oversee accounting and financial reporting activities related to Swamp Fox Agency's captive insurance company. Coordinate with captive managers, actuaries, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Monitor captive capitalization, surplus requirements, reserve funding, and investment performance. Review underwriting results, claims activity, and loss reserve reports. Assist with regulatory filings and annual captive audits. Prepare financial reports and presentations for captive board meetings. Budgeting & Strategic Planning Lead the annual budgeting process for all agency departments. Develop financial forecasts and cash flow projections. Monitor departmental budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies. Provide leadership with key performance metrics and financial insights. Support long-term strategic planning and growth initiatives. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and insurance-related financial regulations. Coordinate annual audits and tax filings. Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and financial consultants. Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices. Monitor financial risks and recommend corrective actions when necessary. Leadership & Team Development Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff. Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and development. Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with department leaders to support operational and financial objectives. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. CPA designation strongly preferred. Experience Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience. Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Insurance industry experience required. Experience with captive insurance companies strongly preferred. Experience managing audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Knowledge of insurance agency accounting practices, premium accounting, commissions, and captive insurance operations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and presentation abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. High level of integrity and confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications CPA certification. Experience working with insurance agencies, captives, or risk management organizations. Salary Range:
$95,000 - $140,000+ annually, depending on experience, certifications, and insurance/captive expertise.
