Assistant Controller ???? Nashville, TN Fast-track career progression toward CFO. About the Opportunity A growing construction services organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support its accounting and financial operations. This role will partner closely with the Controller and leadership team to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support the company's continued growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, experience in the construction industry, and a thorough understanding of job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project-based accounting. Key Responsibilities Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Maintain general ledger accuracy through account reconciliations and journal entries. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Assist in the preparation and analysis of Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules. Monitor project costs, job profitability, and revenue recognition. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements. Coordinate activities related to external audits and tax filings. Help drive process improvements and accounting efficiencies. Support cash flow management and financial reporting requirements. Supervise and mentor accounting staff as needed. Partner with project managers and operations teams to improve financial visibility and project performance. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Construction industry accounting experience strongly preferred. Experience with job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and WIP reporting. Strong understanding of
U.S. GAAP.
Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Public accounting experience is a plus. Experience supporting multi-project or multi-entity operations. Proven ability to improve processes and strengthen internal controls. Prior leadership or supervisory experience.
