Job Overview D2 Excavating is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and financial controls for the company. This position is responsible for providing timely financial information, supporting operational decision-making, and ensuring the financial health of the organization. The Bookkeeper will work closely with ownership, project managers, operations leadership, and 3rd Party CPA group to drive profitability, improve financial processes, and support continued company growth.
Salary Range:

Minimum 7 years of accounting or finance experience. Minimum 3 years in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior financial leadership role. Construction industry accounting experience required. Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and project accounting. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred CPA designation. Experience with construction accounting software such as Quickbooks, Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint Vista, or similar ERP systems. Experience in excavation, sitework, heavy civil, utility, or earthwork construction. Knowledge of equipment cost accounting and fleet management reporting. Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Accounting Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Manage month-end and year-end closing processes. Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records. Construction Accounting & Job Costing Manage project accounting and job cost reporting. Monitor project budgets, committed costs, and cost-to-complete forecasts. Analyze project profitability and provide recommendations to improve margins. Track labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs. Assist project managers with financial reporting and budget management. Cash Flow & Financial Planning Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts. Monitor working capital and financial performance. Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Evaluate financial risks and opportunities. Provide strategic financial analysis to support company growth. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Coordinate with external CPA firms and auditors. Manage insurance audits, payroll audits, and financial reporting requirements. Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and procedures. Leadership & Process Improvement Supervise accounting and administrative personnel. Develop and improve accounting systems, workflows, and reporting processes. Support implementation of technology and process improvements. Collaborate with operations teams to improve project financial visibility and accountability.
