The BaaS Assistant Controller position supports controllership and financial oversight of a fastgrowing Banking as a Service platform. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the integrity of financial records through robust bank account reconciliations, partner level accounting, and strong internal controls. The position will oversee accounting for BaaS products and review reconciliations of client activity. Additionally, the role involves designing and building internal control and reconciliation frameworks for new fintech partners during onboarding, while ensuring overall compliance with regulatory, contractual and internal requirements. The ideal candidate combines a strong conceptual understanding of accounting with hands on experience with internal controls, reconciliations, operational finance, and cross functional collaboration in a high volume, regulated environment.Tasks:
Support the onboarding of new lending and BIN/payment programs, including financial setup, account structures, process design, and coordination with Product, Operations, Treasury, and Compliance teams. Assist with monthly close and balance sheet oversight, including account analysis and variance investigation. Provide oversight of critical bank and partner reconciliations and help design scalable accounting and reconciliation frameworks to support new fintech partner, lending, and payments program onboarding. Partner with Treasury and Operations to monitor cash flows, settlement activity, and partner fund movements related to BaaS programs. Support the preparation and review of SEC filings and regulatory financial reports, including schedules, footnotes, and supporting analyses. Contribute to the design and enhancement of SOX compliant controls, policies, and procedures as the platform scales. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across reporting, close, and operational accounting processes to improve efficiency and scalability. Support audits, regulatory exams, and internal control testing by providing clear documentation and explanations of financial processes and balances. Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing coaching, performance oversight, and review of work outputs.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong foundation in GAAP accounting and internal controls; experience supporting SOX and regulatory reporting environments. Exposure to financial services, banking, fintech, or payments environments is a plus. Experience supporting new products, programs, or client onboarding from a finance or accounting perspective. Background in public accounting (Big 4 or similar) is strongly preferred, with experience transitioning into or working closely with finance teams. Proven people management or team lead experience, with the ability to review work and develop junior staff. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with comfort operating in a fast moving, growth oriented environment. Required Education / Experience /License :
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Preferred Education /Experience /License:
BA/BS or equivalent professional experience. Preferred 4-7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.Minimum Essential Requirements:
