Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Midlothian, Virginia. This role requires a strategic thinker who can also manage hands-on tasks while overseeing key financial operations. If you have a strong background in cost accounting, sales tax, and team leadership, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic retail organization.

Responsibilities:

Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable and entry level accounting staff. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports. Handle cost accounting processes to support business decisions and improve profitability. Monitor and ensure compliance with sales tax regulations and filings. Provide strategic financial insights to guide organizational planning and decision-making. Supervise the compilation, scanning, and documentation of critical financial records. Maintain a strong system of internal controls to safeguard company assets. Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency. Train and mentor accounting staff to enhance their growth and performance. Address and resolve complex accounting issues in a timely manner. Proven experience in a Controller role or similar financial leadership position. Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices. Expertise in managing sales tax compliance and reporting. Demonstrated ability to oversee and develop accounting teams. Proficiency in document control and scanning techniques. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
