Job Description

Who We Are Long Painting Company (LPC) conducts some of the most complex new construction and maintenance coating projects in the Northwest. Some projects are more industrial in nature: Shipyards, bridges, tank farms, factory maintenance painting, dams and infrastructures. Other projects are more commercial in nature: Campus facilities, schools, hotels, high rises, hospitals, and office parks. LPC historically does well with approximately 50% re-repaint and 50% new construction. New construction and repaint projects range from $5,000 to several million. LPC may employ up to 200 employees during peak months and typically conducts 25-60 projects at once. Position Overview The Controller directs all required accounting functions of the Company in a timely and accurate manner. Accountable for providing all required reports and information to outside entities (such as bank, bonding and insurance) and internal consumers, following the corporate strategic goals. Responsible for directing the Company's accounting department and maintaining the Company's accounting principles, practices and procedures. The Controller will have a staff in charge of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Job Financial Reporting. Duties and Responsibilities Accounting Cycle ▪ Oversee field and office payrolls, making proper federal, state, union and 401(k) deposits timely. ▪ Oversee the processing of all accounts payable and subcontractor payments. ▪ Monitor daily cash balances. ▪ Oversee timely job costing cycles, related closings and reporting requirements. ▪ Manage the preparation of monthly internal financial statements, quarterly external reports to bank, bonding and accounting firm. ▪ Direct preparation of budgets, review budget proposals and prepare necessary supporting documentation. ▪ Oversee preparation of regular reports required by outside agencies: Payroll taxes, union reports, 401(k) plan, insurance companies, etc. ▪ Gather & prepare monthly leading indicator reports for management. ▪ Coordinate annual financial audit and prepare detail schedules for auditors. Other Responsibilities ▪ Advise management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. ▪ Work with the Director of Environmental Health and Services to oversee the financial component of worker's compensation claims. Gather data for annual EMR calculation. ▪ Direct the activities of the 401(k) Trustees, chair meetings and administer plan changes. ▪ Monitor information technology Managed Service Provider (MSP) and assist with implementation of IT needs as required. ▪ Use data mining skills to provide needed information in a usable form as needed to various users in the Company. ▪ Manage owner/contractor controlled insurance policies and requirements. ▪ Process annual employee W-2's and vendor 1099 statements. ▪ Review and recommend changes to burden, indirect and overhead rates. ▪ Advise management on operational adjustments to comply with changing state and federal tax laws to achieve the lowest tax payments required. Management ▪ Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the accounting team (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Job Financial Reporting) that mirrors the mission and core values of the Company, while mentoring and coaching the team towards their personal growth goals. ▪ Coordinate interactions and information needed with other groups in the Company. Leadership/Vision ▪ Participate in quarterly Leadership Team Meetings. Establish, or recommend to management major corporate economic strategies, objectives and or policies for the Company. ▪ Establish relations with banks, bonding, insurance and other professional institutions. ▪ Collaborate with the President on five-year strategic plans and updates. ▪ Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the Company. ▪ Possess exceptional skills in communication, negotiations and problem solving.
