$150,000 - $175,000 base salary (DOE) plus performance bonus, medical, dental, vision, retirement benefits, and paid vacation/holidays. About Pennon Construction Pennon Construction Company, Inc., founded in 1999, is a Washington-based commercial general contractor delivering high-quality projects throughout the Puget Sound region. The company completes approximately $50-$75 million in annual construction volume, managing 8-10 projects concurrently across a variety of commercial project types. Pennon emphasizes strong relationships, accountability, and practical problem solving. Our leadership team works closely together to ensure sound project execution and financial discipline. Position Summary Pennon Construction is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial management functions. This role oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls while supporting company leadership with financial insight and operational guidance. The Controller will work closely with the company's three principals and project management staff to maintain accurate financial information, ensure strong financial controls, and support the continued growth of the business. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing the company's accounting operations and supervising an accounting administrator responsible for contract administration and accounts payable.Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and supporting schedules
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP
- Manage fixed asset accounting and reconciliations Construction Accounting & Project Financial Oversight
- Oversee job cost accounting and WIP reporting
- Review project billings and coordinate with project managers on financial performance
- Monitor cost-to-complete reporting and job profitability Cash Management & Operations
- Manage company cash position and banking relationships
- Oversee accounts receivable, collections, and deposits
- Review bank reconciliations and support cash flow forecasting Compliance, Insurance & Risk Management
- Manage insurance renewals, audits, and risk analysis
- Ensure tax, licensing, and regulatory compliance
- Oversee business license management and renewals Leadership & Process Improvement
- Supervise accounting staff responsible for contract administration and accounts payable
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial partners Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of construction industry accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and construction accounting practices
- Experience with WIP schedules and cost-to-complete accounting
- Experience managing general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
- Advanced Excel and accounting software experience
- Authorized to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ComputerEase accounting software
- Experience with Procore construction management software
- CPA or equivalent professional experience preferred Skills & Attributes

- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Ability to collaborate effectively with ownership, project managers, superintendents, and external partners Working Conditions
