This role involves overseeing accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making across departments. In addition, the Controller will manage day-to-day administrative functions, coordinate office operations, and provide oversight of HR activities including payroll, benefits administration, onboarding, performance tracking, and employee relations. The ideal candidate will bring strong financial expertise along with organizational skills to ensure smooth internal operations and foster a positive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and reports
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
• Monitor project profitability and collaborate with project managers
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and tax requirements
• Ensure compliance with ESOP, 401K, and tax filings
• Manage accounting systems (experience with Deltek Ajera and Paychex is preferred)
• Liaise with external CPAs and financial partners
• Handle insurance applications and corporate licensing
• Onboard new staff and maintain employee benefits records
• Review project setup and coordinate with project teams

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus)
• 5+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in an architectural, engineering, or professional services firm
• Strong understanding of project-based accounting
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Deltek Ajera, Paychex) and Excel
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills
