Why our Underwriting Assistant is
Underwriting plays a critical role in evaluating risk and determining appropriate pricing and conditions to ensure sound business decisions. It balances protecting the companys financial strength while supporting agency partners and policyholders with fair, timely, and competitive solutions.
Operating within established guidelines and delegated authority, the Underwriting Assistant plays a key role in supporting the underwriting team. This position provides responsive, high-quality service to agency partners and policyholders while managing the end-to-end support of small accounts. Responsibilities include processing quote requests, binding coverage, and issuing policies with accuracy and timeliness.
Essential DutiesReview and quote pooled account submissions, verifying appropriate classification and pricing.
Collaboratively manage and triage the service inbox, responding to inquiries and service requests from agents and policyholders.
Review and process pooled policy audits.
Manage physical mail duties including generation & mailing out of invoices and billing notices and routing incoming mail.
Support systems testing, including reviewing functionality, identifying issues and providing feedback during system upgrades and enhancements.
Maintain policy database integrity.
Comply with Underwriting Best Practices, Policy & Procedures and Service Standards. Meet service standard quality and timeliness guidelines.
Provide coverage for the underwriting team and support the claims and accounting departments.
Establish good rapport with agents to promote positive relationships. Occasional travel outside the office may be required.
Promote a culture of outstanding customer service across the organization.
Support organization-wide and diversification initiatives including cross-selling and product offerings.
Support training of new team members.
Ensure management is kept fully informed of emerging issues, regulatory changes, and competitive market developments.
Other duties as assigned.
RequirementsStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to work independently and collaborativelyStrong customer service focus with good verbal and written communication skillsProficiency with MS Office Insurance experience (preferred)
