We are currently seeking an Underwriting Assistant to join our team! This position is responsible for supporting the production and maintenance of a profitable book of business through accurate and timely adherence of underwriting policies and guidelines and aiding in constructive agency relationships. You'll be responsible for: Utilize internal and external resources including applications, loss runs, and other available resources to analyze new business submissions to ensure quote accuracy and timeliness of smaller accounts. Conduct accurate processing and evaluation of renewal policies that need manual intervention to provide sound quote proposals to partner agents. Communicate with agents, brokers, and clients to obtain missing information or clarify policy details in a timely manner. Assist in gathering, organizing, and reviewing forms and supporting documents to ensure completeness and accuracy of the underwriting file. Assist agents in resolving issues or questions by working collaboratively with senior UWs and involving other teams as appropriate. Communicate ideas for procedural or workflow improvements. Abide by SIF policies, Underwriting Guidelines, Letters of Authority, and regulations published by the Idaho Department of Insurance, Industrial Commission and NCCI. Share competitive information regarding other carriers with underwriting teams and team supervisors. Use standard memos, spreadsheets, and templates for correspondence. Participate in team meetings and training sessions as needed. Handle confidential information appropriately.
Your background should include:
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of work and educational experience. 3+ years of underwriting support experience, preferred. Working knowledge of workers' compensation insurance concepts, including some understanding of the NCCI Basic Manual and Idaho statutes, preferred. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts and policies to agency personnel. High level of attention to detail, especially regarding documentation and record keeping. Proficiency using desktop applications, e.g., Microsoft Office products, to generate emails, forms/letters, reports, and presentations as well as search and download information from the internet. Skill to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations involving decimals, fractions, and percentages. Capability of producing grammatically correct correspondence. Self-motivated and proactive attitude that lends itself to accurate and timely account management. What you can expect!
