Location US-CT-Groton Seat Location EB Groton Shipyard Trade Fire & Emergency Services Shift 1st, 2nd, 3rd Security Clearance Required Secret Overview Electric Boat located in Groton, Connecticut is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Firefighter / EMT. Electric Boat Fire Department is an "All-Hazards Fire Department" with response to fire, technical rescue, hazardous materials, and emergency medical calls. Electric Boat Fire Department provides mutual aid suppression services and EMS medical transportation to neighboring communities when requested. This highly competitive Firefighter / EMT position works (24) hours on and (48) hours off. The 24/48 rotating schedule provides protection to an industrial environment. This position is overtime for all work completed after 40 hours. The successful candidate will respond to alarms, medical emergencies, technical rescue incidents, hazardous material incidents, fire incidents as well as other emergencies; participate in emergency response training; perform fire prevention and inspection work; participate in public / employee education; operate emergency vehicles and firefighting equipment; and maintain the fire station and fire department equipment.
Essential Functions:
The firefighter receives technical guidance and direction from a Fire Inspector; completes electronic fire, patient care and other prevention and inspections reports, clearly communicates with others, follows lawful orders from superiors, follows EB directives, applicable NFPA and OSHA standards as well as EB RadCon guidelines. Safely respond to any type of emergency, as a vehicle operator or firefighter team member, and operate in stressful situations in harsh environments while wearing cumbersome personal protective equipment while protecting life and property. Performs Emergency Response Duties but not limited to: This firefighter will be required to wear full firefighter personal protective equipment to include positive pressure self contained breathing apparatus. The firefighter will be required to respond to environments that are (IDLH) inherently dangerous to life and health to include small spaces and/or confined space tanks. Respond to emergencies with the assigned company; lay and connect hoses, operate and maintain pumping apparatus; hold nozzle and direct fire steam in burning structures, submarines or outside fires; raise and climb ladders; ventilate roofs of burning structures; enter burning structures and submarines to remove non-ambulatory victims; Respond to medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest victims, difficulty in breathing, allergic reactions, fall victims, trauma victims to perform EMT-B standards of care in accordance with the current State of
CT DPH EMS
Guidelines such as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, administration of oxygen and other authorized pharmacology treatments; application of splints and bandages. Respond to technical rescue emergencies such as confined space rescues, high angle rescues, vehicle and machine extrications; operates at height while on rope rescue systems; lifts heavy extrication equipment in excess of 50 pounds; wears cold water rescue equipment to enter the water for removal of victims. Respond to hazardous materials emergencies to perform awareness, operational and technician level skills, such as identifying and interpreting information, damming, diking and diverting released materials; rescue and decontamination of victims; stopping leaks of materials; application of fire suppression agents. Perform inspection and fire prevention duties, such as lifting and weighing fire extinguishers; testing alarms and communication devices; vehicle and equipment inspections checks; filling fire extinguishers. Responding Mutual Aid to surrounding communities for assistance.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Pro-Board or IFSAC Certification to at least Fire Firefighter II and
NFPA 472
Hazardous Materials Operations. Possess a valid CDL A (or) CDL B Operator's License (or) a valid Connecticut 2Q Operator's License or equivalent. Possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certificate issued by the State of Connecticut (or) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
FEMA NIMS
Certificate in ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800.
Preferred Qualifications:
