Non-Exempt SUMMARY:
Under the immediate supervision of the Lead Journeyman, performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks, including some light equipment operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    New Construction Activities:
    • Observes and assists the other lineman with all site inspections, plans of action, and assembling of equipment and supplies.
    • Conducts all projects in a safe manner by complying with all work rules and plan specifications.
    • Assists in securing work sites assuring for public safety and the security of the site.
    • Deals with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Responds to requests of an immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
    Line Repair and Maintenance Activities:
    • Assist with site inspections, work planning, and safety issues of any job or project.
    • Assists with completing the necessary repair work in a safe and timely manner.
    • Conducts visual inspections of the system and meters as assigned or required.
    • Participates in the monthly meter reading process as assigned by supervisors.
    • Communicates and coordinates with the public, assists with dealing with customer complaints, provides answers to questions, and clarifies City electrical policies in a professional manner.
    Equipment and Supply Activities:
    • Maintains an awareness of all the supplies and equipment required to operate on a daily basis
    • Daily monitors the inventory of supplies and equipment in the electrical department and notifies supervisors on the need to reorder and restock specific items.
    • Maintains an awareness of the corrective and preventative maintenance procedures and schedules of machinery and equipment.
    Line Clearance Activities:
    • Monitors the changing weather conditions.
    • Does tree trimming and weed mowing in a safe manner assuring for proper line clearance and compliance with department and state regulations.
    • Responds to emergency situations involving downed lines as required assuring for safety and timeliness.
    Apprentice Program Activities:
    • Participates in on-going training activities and classes.
    • Studies training manuals and information.
    • Completes requirements of employee training agreement.
    • Any and all other duties as prescribed by the Lead Journeyman, Line Superintendent, Public Works Foreman, Director and/or City ordinance.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    EXPERIENCE
    High school diploma, or G.E.D.; and One year experience as an electric groundman.
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
    Requires a valid Missouri Class

    ABILITIES
    • Ability to understand and follow simple verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, city officials, and the general public through written and oral communications.
    • Some knowledge of methods, materials and routine tools used in general maintenance of electric lines and connections preferred.
    • Ability to work effectively for prolonged periods of time in all weather conditions.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Sight, hearing.
    • Must be able to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in decision making.
    • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
    MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
    • Coordinated use of both arms, legs, and hands at once, frequent lateral mobility, changing physical location, stooping, climbing, bending, pushing, and pulling.
    MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be willing to work during non-regular hours, such as nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
    • Must be willing to work during periods of inclement weather.
    • Subject to emergency call-in.
    • Must successfully complete a background check.
    • Must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
