Job Title:
Diesel Mechanic Supervisor Job Description This role oversees the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered tractor trailers, trucks, and material handling equipment while providing day-to-day supervision for a small maintenance team. The Diesel Mechanic Supervisor performs and coordinates full-service repairs, prioritizes multiple projects, and ensures all equipment operates safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Supervise the maintenance department, overseeing the work of at least 3 technicians and supporting their day-to-day activities. Perform full-service repairs independently on diesel-powered tractor trailers, trucks, and material handling equipment. Diagnose and troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, and mechanical systems to identify root causes of issues. Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple maintenance and repair projects to minimize equipment downtime. Conduct preventive maintenance on engines, trailers, trucks, and material handling equipment according to established schedules and standards. Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meet safety, quality, and reliability standards. Support and guide team members by sharing technical expertise and best practices in diesel repair and maintenance. Coordinate maintenance activities within the manufacturing facility and storage yard environments as needed. Document maintenance and repair work accurately and communicate equipment status and needs to relevant stakeholders. Essential Skills At least 8-10 years of hands-on diesel mechanic repair experience, preferably with tractor trailers and heavy equipment. Strong knowledge and practical experience with diesel engines and their components. Proven ability to perform full-service repairs independently on trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment. Experience supervising and leading a team of 3 or more maintenance or mechanic personnel. Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Solid experience in preventive maintenance and general maintenance technician duties. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple maintenance projects in a fast-paced environment. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical information related to equipment and repairs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical school education in diesel mechanics or engine repair. Experience with material handling equipment maintenance and repair. Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial or fleet setting. Welding and fabricating experience is a plus. Previous experience working in both manufacturing facilities and yard or outdoor environments. Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate work and provide clear direction to the team. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work takes place in a mix of indoor manufacturing facilities and outdoor storage yard environments, involving hands-on work around trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment. The role requires comfort working around industrial machinery and in varying weather conditions when in the yard, with appropriate workwear suitable for a shop and outdoor setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Southbridge, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
