Job Description

Position Title:
Food Service Reports To:
Food Service Director Job Objectives Helps prepare and serve meals. Maintains high standards to ensure quality services and customer satisfaction. Maintains a sanitary and orderly kitchen. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.). Documented evidence of a clear criminal record. Food production skills and the ability to use commercial kitchen equipment. Ability to comply with nutrition, health, and safety regulations. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable qualification can be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. Follows directions and assignments provided by the Food Service Supervisor and seeks clarification when needed. Upholds board policies, administrative procedures, and food service regulations. Promotes a positive image of the school district and food service program through professional conduct and appearance. Assists with food preparation and service in accordance with approved menus, standardized recipes, portion guidelines, and nutritional requirements. Ensures compliance with all applicable food safety and sanitation regulations, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures. Prepares and serves meals in an efficient, safe, and attractive manner. Assists in preparing meals for students with dietary restrictions or special nutritional needs as directed. Sets up and maintains serving lines to ensure efficient meal service and appropriate portion control. Properly stores, labels, rotates, and disposes of food items in accordance with established procedures. Assists with receiving deliveries, verifying quantities, organizing inventory, and reporting shortages, spoilage, or damaged products. Uses products, supplies, and equipment responsibly to minimize waste and control costs. Cleans, washes, and sanitizes kitchen equipment, utensils, serving areas, and food preparation surfaces. Monitors kitchen safety and reports maintenance, equipment, or safety concerns to the Food Service Supervisor. Assists with meal counting, recordkeeping, deposits, and other required documentation in accordance with district procedures. Maintains accurate records and submits reports in a timely manner. Assists with preparation for health, fire, and safety inspections and follows established emergency procedures. Works cooperatively with staff to maintain established schedules and efficient kitchen operations. Assists with special events, catering activities, and rental group support as assigned. Reports student discipline concerns, vandalism, injuries, or other safety issues to appropriate administrators. Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as required. Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor or administration. Other Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Follows all board policies, administrative procedures, and district guidelines. Maintains professionalism in conduct, communication, appearance, and interactions with students, staff, families, and community members. Promotes a positive image of the school district and food service program. Maintains confidentiality of student and district information in accordance with applicable laws and district policies. Reports suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. Takes appropriate precautions to ensure student and workplace safety; reports unauthorized individuals, suspicious situations, or safety concerns immediately. Supervises students in non-classroom settings as assigned. Participates in school events, meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as directed. Completes all required training within designated timelines. Demonstrates sound judgment, accountability, and a positive working relationship with others. Demonstrates courteous and respectful customer service to students, staff, and visitors. Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor or administration.

May be exposed to blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and other health-related risks associated with school environments. May interact with students or individuals who are disruptive or exhibit challenging behaviors. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions and seasonal temperature extremes. May be exposed to wet floors, hot surfaces, kitchen temperatures, steam, vapors, and food-related odors. May work in environments with moderate-to-loud noise levels and equipment vibrations. Duties require the operation of kitchen equipment and may involve exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards. Duties may require the use of protective clothing and safety equipment. Duties may require completing documentation and working within established timelines. Duties may require occasional evening or weekend work assignments. Duties may require operating or riding in a vehicle for school-related purposes. Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, and move throughout kitchen and serving areas. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and/or pulls food products, supplies, equipment, and materials. Performs repetitive tasks in a fast-paced work environment. May require crouching, kneeling, climbing, and extended periods of standing. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and mobility to safely operate food service equipment and perform assigned duties.
