Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties Under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor I/II, Food Manager, Dietetics Assistant Director, Supervising Cook I/Production, serves or assists with the preparation of foods and beverages; to clean and maintain food service equipment, utensils, and work areas; as required, to instruct and work with helpers from the client population, may instruct or lead STA residents, and to do other related work. Normally are assigned either (1) to help the cooking staff in the kitchen; or (2) to serve food in a dining area. May be required to do work of either type of assignment, incidental to his/her main assignement. Food is generally served cafeteria style in unit kitchens. In kitchen areas, employees perform the routine work of preparing food for cooking and of cleaning and maintaining equipment, utensils and supplies. May instruct and work with a group of helpers from the resident population. Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three (3) percent in exchange for five (5) hours per month of the Personal Leave. Temporary state housing may be available for those relocating to fill hard to recruit positions. Housing assignments and rates will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposed to varying temperatures, and loud noises. Work areas include industrial food service equipment. Works around wet surfaces. Some contact with residents with unpredictable behavior. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, pesticides and cleaning chemicals. Required to work under stressful conditions at times.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during physically, mentally, and emotionally stressful and emergency situations encountered on the job without endangering their own health and well-being or that of their fellow employees, clients or the public. Must have full range of body motion and be able to lift, push and pull. Corrected vision must be to normal range. Manual finger dexterity/hand-eye coordination required. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Involves frequent heavy lifting up to 50 pounds maximum, often combined with pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, grabbing, carrying, kneeling, twisting, and reaching at or above shoulder level; includes bending and twisting. Includes sitting, standing and walking most of the time, with or working on, irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity. These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
