Forklift Driver - Distribution Center Job Description This role operates within a modern distribution center, where you will spend most of your day driving a sit-down forklift to load and unload trucks and move product throughout the warehouse. When not on the forklift, you support key warehouse operations such as quality control, receiving, and pallet consolidation to ensure accurate and efficient order fulfillment. Responsibilities Operate a sit-down forklift for approximately 90% of the workday to load and unload trucks safely and efficiently. Move, stage, and organize pallets and product throughout the distribution center according to established procedures. Perform quality control checks on orders to verify accuracy, condition, and completeness before shipment. Receive incoming product, verify quantities and documentation, and put away items in the appropriate warehouse locations. Consolidate pallets to optimize warehouse space and maintain an organized storage layout. Print and apply shipping labels using UPS, FedEx, or similar shipping software to prepare orders for shipment. Transport sealed drums and other materials within the facility while following all safety and handling guidelines. Follow all safety, housekeeping, and operational procedures to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily production, shipping, and receiving goals. Essential Skills 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. 2-5 years of sit-down forklift experience, with either electric or gas-powered equipment. Proficiency operating a sit-down forklift for extended periods, including loading and unloading trucks. Experience printing shipping labels through UPS, FedEx, or other comparable shipping software. Ability to perform basic quality control checks on orders and shipments. Capability to safely handle and transport sealed drums and palletized materials. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate receiving, labeling, and order fulfillment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a distribution center environment. Familiarity with warehouse processes such as receiving, put-away, and pallet consolidation. Comfort working on a forklift for the majority of the shift. Reliability and consistency in attendance to support shift-based operations. Work Environment This position is based in a distribution center environment with modern, brand-new equipment and facilities. The role involves working primarily on a sit-down forklift, loading and unloading trucks and moving product throughout the warehouse. The Wisconsin location is fully air conditioned, providing a comfortable indoor climate. The work includes handling and transporting sealed drums but does not involve direct, hands-on work with chemicals. Typical schedules include a first shift (Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and a second shift (Monday-Thursday, 2:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m., and Friday, 11:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m.). The environment is safety-focused, organized, and geared toward efficient distribution operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chicago, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
