Job Title:
Forklift Operator Job Description This role involves safely operating forklifts and related equipment to load, unload, and move freight within a clean, modern facility. You will handle inbound and outbound shipments, ensure accurate freight identification and documentation, and maintain a safe and organized dock environment. Responsibilities Load inbound and outbound freight to and from vehicles and containers using a forklift and other material handling equipment. Unload inbound and outbound containers and sort freight according to size, type, and destination. Read, decode, and interpret freight codes to expedite freight movement and support accurate tracing processes. Reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests to ensure all freight is properly documented and accounted for. Label freight accurately, and perform weighing and dimensional measurements to support proper handling and documentation. Record damaged shipments and misrouted freight on the appropriate reports to support quality and service standards. Perform regular cleanup activities in the work area to maintain a safe, organized, and clean dock. Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines while operating forklifts and handling freight. Perform all essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Skills Proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse, dock, or distribution environment. Hands-on material handling experience, including loading, unloading, and moving freight. Ability to accurately read, decode, and decipher freight codes and labels. Experience with inventory-related tasks such as counting and verifying freight. Capability to reconcile pick-up and delivery manifests and complete basic freight documentation. Attention to detail when labeling, weighing, and dimensionalizing freight. Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area. Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background as a Forklift Operator or Equipment Operator. Experience with material counting and basic inventory control. Familiarity with dock operations and freight handling processes. Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume freight environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a clean, modern dock and warehouse environment with a strong focus on safety and organization. You will operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move freight throughout the facility. Multiple shift options are available, including: Sunday-Wednesday with 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday-Saturday with the same shift times; and Friday-Monday with a 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. schedule. The work involves standing, walking, and operating equipment for extended periods while working around active freight operations in a structured, team-oriented setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Independence, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
