Job Title:
Forklift Operator / Order Picker Job Description This role combines forklift operation, order picking, and general warehouse duties in a clean, modern facility. You will safely operate forklifts and ride-along pallet jacks to move raw materials and finished goods, retrieve products stored at elevated heights, and support packing, loading, and unloading activities. The position requires strong attention to safety, reliability, and accuracy in handling inventory and completing work orders. Responsibilities Operate a forklift safely and efficiently, including in close quarters and around other people and equipment. Use a ride-along pallet jack and order picker equipment to retrieve products stored up to 2-3 floors high. Move raw materials and finished shipping goods throughout the manufacturing and warehouse floors. Load and unload trailers and trucks, ensuring products are handled carefully and placed in the correct locations. Wrap pallets as needed to secure loads and prepare them for storage or shipment. Perform material handling tasks such as selecting, picking, and staging products according to manifests, work orders, and instructions. Pack screws, bolts, fasteners, and other items accurately and efficiently. Use RF scanners or similar scan guns, when required, to manage inventory and track product movement. Lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs as part of daily tasks. Follow all safety practices and procedures when operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the warehouse. Support other warehouse tasks as needed, including general labor, inventory handling, and assisting team members. Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance in accordance with established attendance expectations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of forklift operating experience within the past 2 years. Experience operating a forklift in close quarters and confined spaces. At least 1 year of experience as a material handler. Ability to safely operate a ride-along pallet jack and order picker equipment. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to forklift and warehouse operations. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly as part of daily duties. Experience loading and unloading freight, including trailers and trucks. High school diploma or equivalent. Strong attendance record and reliability based on prior employment. Ability to follow manifests, work orders, and written or verbal instructions accurately. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using RF scanners or scan guns for inventory management. Background in inventory handling, including selecting and tracking products. Experience packing small hardware items such as screws, bolts, and fasteners. Familiarity with wrapping pallets and preparing loads for storage or shipment. Comfort working at heights when retrieving products stored 2-3 floors high. General warehouse experience, including material handling, selecting, packing, wrapping, and loading. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a newer, very clean warehouse facility that includes both manufacturing and storage areas. You will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position involves operating a forklift approximately 40-60% of the time, with the remaining time spent on tasks such as picking, packing, wrapping pallets, loading, unloading, and general material handling. You will operate forklifts and ride-along pallet jacks in close quarters and at elevated heights to retrieve products stored up to 2-3 floors high. The environment emphasizes safe equipment operation, organized workflows, and cleanliness throughout the warehouse. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Agawam, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
