Freelance Furniture Designer (Part-Time / Supplemental Role)

We are a startup outdoor furniture and lifestyle company. We specialize in solid wood furniture made in the USA using Shou Sugi Ban charred cypress or artificially weathered cypress finishes, to achieve a modern coastal aesthetic for premium positioning, think elevated Pottery Barn, with selective use of other materials to enhance functionality and aesthetics.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a talented freelance furniture designer for part-time, supplemental collaboration (average 10-15 hours per week, with actual hours varying—potentially more or less—based on current project needs and workload). This is explicitly not a full-time position and is well-suited as a second job or moonlighting opportunity alongside other professional commitments or clients. The role involves developing innovative furniture designs for our outdoor furniture line. The first engagement's scope is to refine the existing lounge chair prototype into a production-ready 3D model/design, then expand to a sofa, side tables, and a coffee table, all designed to meet

standards. Reference materials, including prototype photos, measurements, and aesthetic direction, will be provided at engagement. Most work will be remote and independent, using your own tools, software, and methods. Key Responsibilities

• Independently conceptualize and refine furniture designs that align with our general aesthetic guidelines while bringing your creative expertise.
• Produce detailed 3D models, renders, and presentations using your preferred industry-standard tools (strong proficiency in SketchUp, Fusion 360, Rhino, or comparable software preferred).
• Communicate proactively and respond promptly to emails, texts, or calls to keep projects on track. Requirements

• A cursory understanding of current trends in the furniture and interior design business.
• Demonstrated proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software (e.g., SketchUp, Fusion 360, Rhino, or equivalents).
• Genuine passion for furniture design and interior design, supported by a strong, relevant portfolio.
• Flexibility to learn, adapt, and work within our established style parameters while maintaining your independent creative approach—we value diverse skill sets and a growth mindset.
• Exceptional reliability, strong work ethic, and professional communication: timely responses, ownership of deliverables.
• Portfolio samples required—please include links or attachments showcasing your furniture or related design work.
• Willingness to sign a standard non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and consulting agreement upon engagement to protect proprietary information and project details.
• All work product is considered work-for-hire; full IP ownership transfers to the client upon payment.
• References from 1-2 recent clients (or equivalent professional contacts who can speak to your freelance design work, reliability, collaboration style, and communication) will be requested from finalists during the interview process—please be prepared to provide contact details (name, relationship/role, email/phone) if selected for further consideration.

WHAT WE OFFER

• Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and contributions (paid as a 1099 independent contractor—no tax withholding, benefits, or insurance provided). We anticipate $45-85/hr, depending on experience or a contract for the full collection design.
