Job Description:
Hybrid 4 in New York, NY Our client is seeking a senior full-stack developer at the SVP level to design and build core equities engineering services that power real-time trading workflows. The role focuses on backend Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, and messaging with Kafka or MQ to drive scalability, latency, and resiliency. You will modernize legacy components into cloud-native microservices, integrate AI-assisted development practices, and mentor developers while delivering mission-critical enhancements and support. Due to client requirements, applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis. Rate:
$95.00 to $105.00/hr. w2 JN -052026-106972 Responsibilities Design and build trading and messaging channels interfacing with venues and exchanges using industry-standard protocols. Operate mission-critical systems and deliver day-to-day enhancements across front office and operations. Design and develop core Java components leveraging messaging systems such as Kafka and MQ. Coordinate and execute internal system testing procedures. Collaborate across platform teams within a platform operating model. Deliver and maintain applications within the equities domain with a focus on reliability and performance. Provide second-level production support and troubleshoot issues under pressure. Mentor junior developers and contribute to engineering best practices. Re-engineer and modernize the platform toward scalable microservices and cloud-based architectures. Drive migration and consolidation efforts for order management systems. Experience Requirements 10+ years of software development with strong proficiency in Java, SQL, and Git. 10+ years in business analysis and trading systems analysis or administration. Strong experience with messaging and data protocols including Kafka and MQ; familiarity with FIX and FpML. Proficiency with Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Integration. Proficiency in data standards and data modeling. Comfort with cloud environments and DevOps practices including build, deploy, debug, and pipelines. Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments. Knowledge of equity products and instruments. Familiarity with AI coding-assist tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, or Claude Code. Experience operating distributed, real-time systems with a focus on scalability, latency, performance, and availability. Production support experience with strong troubleshooting and debugging skills. Experience with application profiling and performance tuning. Experience with order management systems and smart order routing (preferred). Experience managing trade data feeds and downstream integrations (preferred). Understanding of equities trade life cycles (preferred). Understanding of the regulatory landscape from a developer perspective (preferred). Familiarity with Angular and Python (preferred). Experience with in-memory caching such as Hazelcast, Redis, or GemFire (preferred). Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk (preferred). Cloud architecture and scalability design experience (preferred). Hands-on FIX protocol experience (preferred). Strong communication and organization skills. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
