Full-time Custodian/Maintenance Apprentice Pay Range:
$18.50 - $26.00 Hiring range is $18.50 -$22.25 DOEPOSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the overall cleaning of the Estes Valley Community Center (EVCC) facilities and adjacent grounds and assisting the Facility Maintenance Manager in routine maintenance tasks. This position will be responsible for performing the various skills that are associated with the routine custodial and maintenance of the facility and equipment, including building maintenance and overall janitorial care of the building. It requires exceptional attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and experience in cleaning large, busy public facilities. This work schedule traditionally occurs during open business hours but may require after-hours shifts due to special events or maintenance projects.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform custodial duties and minor maintenance responsibilities for theEstes Valley Community Center:
Specific routine facility cleaning and sanitizing duties and responsibilities include; sweep, mop, shampoo buff and wax floors, shake out mats, vacuum carpets, clean spills, pick up and remove trash from facility and grounds, empty trash cans, dust furniture, polish glass mirrors and clean windows, and clean and sanitize locker rooms, restrooms, family changing rooms, water fountains, etc. Work with the Facility Maintenance Manager to learn about routine maintenance tasks at the EVCC and perform those tasks on an as needed basis. Maintenance tasks can include routine monitoring of maintenance systems, minor mechanical maintenance, fixtures replacement and repair, painting, carpentry, and minor plumbing. Responsible for carrying out the directions given by the Facility Maintenance manager and the Manager of Community Center Operations.Leadership:
Position may include assisting with supervising staff or contractors. Help provide part-time staff orientation and training to enhance staff performance and assist with the monitoring of custodial standards throughout the building. Position ensures daily cleaning duties are completed to maintain a high level of customer service. Team communication regarding building condition, before, during, and after shifts is vital to operations.Other:
Maintain and complete daily cleaning and janitorial maintenance logs. Ensure the proper inventory and ordering of building cleaning supplies. Inspect and perform routine maintenance on assigned custodial equipment to ensure proper operating condition. Set up and take down chairs, tables, and other miscellaneous equipment for meetings and other event activities. Perform snow removal from sidewalks and treat icy entrance and pedestrian areas. Complete landscaping and grounds maintenance to include weed mitigation, trash pick-up, watering plants or trees, maintaining the sprinkler system and other duties related to ensuring the outside grounds Notify the Maintenance Manager immediately of any safety hazards or repairs required of the facility and grounds. Utilize safety measures, wear proper safety gear, and always assist in the overall safety inside the building and on the grounds. Obey and comply with all EVRPD, Local, State, and Federal ordinances and policies, and assist in the enforcement of related rules and ordinances. Perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, andABILITIES
General knowledge of custodial procedures, building systems, carpentry work, and the ability to perform minor construction and make repairs. Use hand tools, such as hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, and various other carpentry tools, and ability to operate custodial equipment such as buffers, carpet cleaners/extractors, steam cleaners, power washers, mops, brooms, vacuums, and various other custodial equipment. Responsible for knowing how to train custodial staff on various maintenance and janitorial equipment in the performance of their duties, and ability to train part-time custodial staff on proper cleaning, detailing, and building procedures. Take initiative to improve the building quality by meeting the needs and expectations of the EVCC users and patrons, as well as the entire EVCC staff. Perform a variety of routine cleaning tasks of a multi-level building, and understand occupational hazards and safety precautions. Provide outstanding customer service and get along with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors. Concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions, perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession, and perform job responsibilities in a timely manner in order to meet scheduled deadlines. Basic record keeping methods, and ability to read directions, chemical labels, and work documents. Operate a computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine, and possess knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
High school diploma or GED A minimum of two (2) years of custodial experience appropriate to the work assignmentPreferred:
Custodial/janitorial equipment operation maintenance experience Supervisory experience Bilingual in English/SpanishLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hireWORK ENVIRONMENT
Majority of work occurs inside and occasionally outdoors on the immediate grounds, where employee is exposed to weather and temperature extremes. Work near moving mechanical parts and subject to electrical shock and vibration. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, loud noises, cleaning chemicals, pool chemicals, foul odors, fumes, heights, work safety hazards, darkness, cramped spaces, bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens. Noise level is usually moderate to loud during events, setting up/breaking down equipment, and when equipment is running, and minimal during non-events and when equipment is not running.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, balance, bend, use overhead activity, twist, climb, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Regularly required to use dexterity of hands and fingers to finger, handle, grasp and feel. Possess ability to talk, hear, smell, maintain physical balance and physical control, coordination including eye/hand, hand/foot, and have a high level of endurance. Must be able to lift and/or move up to and in excess of 50 pounds and possess above average physical mobility, strength, and agility. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
