Description:
The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting in all facets of the Softball program, specifically the teaching and instruction of softball fundamentals under the direction of the head coach. This individual will support the Head Coach in planning and executing individuals for the fall, games and film preparation, recruiting, administrative tasks, scheduling games, practice planning, and fostering a positive team environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
    Experience:
    ? Minimum of 2 years playing experience in this specific sport (preferably at the collegiate level). ? Possess a thorough knowledge of the game, a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies, and a demonstrated ability to enhance player development
      Education:
      A bachelor's degree is required.
        Leadership Skills:
        ? Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor student athletes on and off the field, with an understanding of the fundamental role that intercollegiate athletics, properly implemented, can play in the educational and personal development of our student-athletes. ? Work effectively as a member of a team with administrators, the support staff, and other coaches and programs within the Department of Athletics ? Have excellent organizational and people skills
        • Level of independence: High level of ability to work independently and be able to properly prioritize the work to be done.
        Communication Skills:
        ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills ? Communicate effectively with various institutional constituencies (e.g., faculty, administration, students, parents, staff, alumni and friends) in order to strengthen integration and relationships with the University
          Computer Skills:
          Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office
          • Physical Exertion requirements: Medium work as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
          Schedule Flexibility:
          Frequent weekend or evening work is required including frequent travel with the team.
            Driving History:
            Must qualify to drive a University owned vehicle and demonstrate an ability to safely drive 15-passenger vans.

            The candidate must adhere to any and all King University policies as detailed for all employees in the Employee Handbook or specifically per any department, such as Admissions, Business Office, Financial Aid, etc. ? Be knowledgeable in NCAA and Conference Carolinas rules and regulations. Commitment to operating the program within strict budget guidelines, including the desire and ability to fundraise to meet budget needs. ? Successfully pass NCAA recruiting examination within one month of hire ? Must be willing to obtain certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid and be willing to obtain other certifications as needed

              Responsibilities:
              Primary Responsibilities:
              • Assist in the supervision of all activities related to the student athletes: ? Provide specific skill instruction and teaching of the fundamentals of softball ? Provide leadership and support of student athletes ? Provide in-game assistance to the coaching staff, as needed. ? Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to student-athletes:
              • Support and model to student-athletes the NCAA's Life in the Balance initiative
              • Monitor the academic progress of team members in keeping with the standards of King University, NCAA and Conference Carolinas
              • Athletic conditioning and training as required, including direct oversight of off-season conditioning o Provide opportunities for spiritual growth of team members
              • Assist in the oversight of many administrative functions of the softball team: o Comply with all NCAA and Conference Carolinas rules and regulations o Attend clinics and or meetings for continuing education or as required by the NCAA and Conference Carolinas
              • Assist in hiring and directly oversee student workers including manager, statistician, scorekeepers, and student trainer: o Create opportunities for advancement in the field of intercollegiate athletics o Provide valuable skills and experience
              • Assist in all marketing and media relations for the sport of
              Softball:
              o Raise money to supplement the softball budget in coordination with the Communications and Advancement departments
              • Meal Plans o Plan food for all away trips
              General Responsibilities:
              • Use discretion and professionalism in communicating details of the University operations outside of the office, ensuring confidentiality, integrity and security of all personal and financial student information
              • Compliance with any outside authority including, but not limited to accrediting agencies, external auditing, local authorities (police, fire, etc.), OSHA, TN OSHA, EPA, etc., and do any audit work required for these agencies in a timely fashion
              • Follow the policies as set forth in the appropriate employee handbook and subsequent updates or changes including, but not limited to, travel, professional development, purchasing and reimbursements, etc.
              • Professional Development and Compliance o Participate in professional organizations and professional development as time and resources permit and as directed by the supervisor.
              o Seek out organizations that might provide insight and a networking resource for continued professional development o Note any honor societies or professional certification which are applicable to the position, which are desired but not required o Comply with national charters and requirements as possible, noting the exceptions for the file, with your supervisor's acknowledgement
              • Handle/Use 643 Charts and GoRout for defense, pitch and offense calling
              • Hack Attack
              • Other occasional duties and responsibilities as assigned
              Language:
              Proficiency in written and spoken English required
