Dentist (Flexible Schedule - Half-Time or Full-Time New Graduate Opportunity) Highland Medical Center - Monterey, VA Highland Medical Center (HMC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Dentist to join our team in the beautiful mountains of Western Virginia. This is a unique opportunity offering flexible scheduling—ideal for an experienced provider seeking a half-time, every-other-month schedule, or for a full-time new graduate looking to grow alongside an experienced dentist in a collaborative, supportive environment. Position Overview As a Dentist at HMC, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered dental care to individuals and families in a rural, community-focused setting. You will play a key role in improving oral health outcomes while building meaningful relationships with patients and contributing to a team that values compassion, excellence, and whole-person care.
This role offers:
Halftime option: Work every other month with extended time off in between Fulltime option (new graduates encouraged): Work alongside our current dentist (who practices every other month) for mentorship and continuity of care Key Responsibilities Provide routine and emergency dental services, including exams, diagnosis, and treatment planning Perform general restorative procedures, crown and bridge work, removable prosthetics, and uncomplicated endodontics and oral surgery Prescribe and interpret radiographs and administer appropriate anesthetics and medications Educate patients and families on oral health and preventative care Refer patients to specialists as needed and ensure continuity of care Supervise and collaborate with the dental hygienist and assistants Participate in quality improvement efforts, including chart audits and workflow optimization Engage in community outreach and oral health education initiatives Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records Qualifications DDS or DMD from an ADAaccredited program Active, unrestricted Virginia dental license (or ability to obtain) Current BLS certification Strong clinical skills with a commitment to highquality, patientcentered care Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Interest in rural health and serving a diverse patient population New graduates are encouraged to apply for the fulltime opportunity Why Join Highland Medical Center? Loan Repayment Opportunity:
Highland Medical Center is an eligible site for federal loan repayment programs through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), including the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program. Full-time dentists may have the opportunity to receive significant student loan repayment assistance in exchange for service in a rural, underserved community. Eligible clinicians can receive up to $55,000 in loan repayment for an initial two-year commitment, with the potential for additional funding through continued service. Eligibility is determined by HRSA program requirements and application approval.
