Job Title:
General Laborer Job Description The General Laborer maintains a clean, safe, and debris‑free environment across transfer decks, mezzanines, and automation zones, including conveyors, lifts, shuttles, palletizing cells, and scanners and sensors. This role directly supports equipment uptime and safety by removing debris, cleaning floors and equipment according to established sanitation standard operating procedures, and coordinating with maintenance and operations teams to schedule cleaning during automation downtime. Responsibilities Maintain a clean, safe, and debris‑free environment on transfer decks, mezzanines, and within automation zones such as conveyors, lifts, shuttles, palletizing cells, and scanners and sensors. Remove debris, spillage, and waste from around and under machinery and automation equipment to support safe and efficient operations. Clean floors, equipment, and automation components in accordance with sanitation standard operating procedures and site standards. Use industrial cleaning tools, including scrubbers and vacuums, to thoroughly clean assigned areas and equipment. Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to schedule cleaning activities during automation downtime to minimize disruption. Spend approximately 50% of the time on rollers, chest down, cleaning confined spaces and checking automation tracking tape. Spend approximately 50% of the time walking inside automation stations, picking up spillage and debris, and wiping down automation equipment. Follow lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols when cleaning around and under machinery and automation systems. Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment issues clearly and promptly to the appropriate personnel. Use hand tools and an electric pallet jack as needed to support cleaning and general labor tasks. Work safely in areas with frequent stairs and continuous walking on transfer decks and mezzanines, adapting to varying warehouse conditions. Maintain accurate adherence to sanitation procedures and contribute to overall site cleanliness and organization. Essential Skills Experience in general labor and industrial cleaning in a warehouse or similar environment. Ability to clean around and under machinery and automation equipment safely and effectively. Knowledge of and ability to follow sanitation standard operating procedures and site standards. Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures when working around automated and mechanical equipment. Ability to use industrial cleaning tools such as floor scrubbers and vacuums. Mechanical aptitude to work safely during automation downtime and around moving equipment. Ability to operate an electric pallet jack safely. Experience using hand tools for basic cleaning and maintenance support tasks. Capability to work in confined spaces, including spending extended periods on rollers in a chest‑down position. Physical ability to walk frequently, climb stairs, and work on transfer decks and mezzanines for extended periods. Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to report hazards and issues promptly. Comfort working in varying warehouse conditions, including cooler and warm areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in an automation warehouse or highly mechanized facility. Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Previous experience in roles involving sanitation, industrial cleaning, or automation support. Willingness to work night or weekend shifts as assigned. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a warehouse environment with conditions that vary by zone, including cooler and warm areas. You will frequently use stairs and spend significant time walking on transfer decks and mezzanines. Work is performed in and around automation zones, including conveyors, lifts, shuttles, palletizing cells, and scanners and sensors. The position involves working in confined spaces, often on rollers in a chest‑down position, as well as walking inside automation stations to remove spillage and debris and wipe down equipment. Industrial cleaning tools such as scrubbers and vacuums, hand tools, and an electric pallet jack are used regularly. Shifts are scheduled during evening and overnight hours, with options that include multi‑day weekday and weekend schedules, and work is performed during automation downtime to support safe operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ottawa, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
