DEFINITION
Under general direction, to assist in the planning, development, and implemen­tation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to a school site music program, to serve as a resource con­cerning general music instruc­tion, to instruct and train orchestra, band and choir in musicianship and performance activities, and to do other related functions as directed. Must be fluent in the English language.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Responsible and directly related experience is required to perform problem analysis using widely prescribed principles and concepts. The position classification performs decision analysis and makes decisions that require the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies. The incumbents meet with school administra­tors, teachers, other staff, and parents to communicate information, data, and alternative problem solutions. This a sedentary position classification and performs light work involving sitting a portion of the time but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, and handling and working with instructional materials and objects. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plan, organize, coordinate, and participate in the school site music program Plan, organize, and conduct music rehearsals Select music to suit performance requirements and to accommodate the talents and abilities of the groups Provide a variety of musical and fine arts educational activities Confer with, counsel, and advise site administrators concern­ing special music programs and performing arts activities Advise and offer recommen­dations concerning appropri­ate music instructional mater­ials Ability to: Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective music program Provide specialized resource support and coordination of a creative and innovative music instruction program Analyze and assess music program needs, and offer recommendations per­taining to program activity revisions, additions, or deletions Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accounta­bility controls Communicate effectively in oral and written form Establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relation­ships
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eligible for, or hold certification from, the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board as a music teacher at the K-6 level. In accordance with policy GBEC and procedure GBEC-R all new employees must submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
