Job Title:
General Production Worker Job Description The General Production Worker operates a variety of production and processing equipment in a manufacturing environment. You follow detailed work orders, handle raw materials, and accurately measure, monitor, and document production results throughout your shift. This role involves reading and recording digital weights on a small scale and safely moving filled bags that can weigh up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities Follow work orders and standard operating procedures to operate a variety of production and processing equipment safely and efficiently. Pull and stage raw materials needed for each production run according to specifications. Accurately measure ingredients and materials and record digital weights using a small scale. Monitor production processes and document production results, counts, and any variances in a clear and timely manner. Move, lift, and stack filled bags and packaged products, which may weigh up to 50 pounds, while maintaining safe material-handling practices. Perform general production tasks such as packaging, packing, labeling, and staging finished goods for the next phase of the process. Operate machines and equipment in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and company quality standards. Inspect products and materials for quality, consistency, and correct weights, and report any defects or issues promptly. Assist with basic troubleshooting of production and packaging equipment to minimize downtime. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including routine cleaning of equipment and work surfaces. Follow all safety, quality, and cleanliness standards, including any cleanroom or controlled-environment requirements as applicable. Collaborate with team members and shift leads to meet production goals and support continuous improvement efforts. Use forklifts or other material-handling equipment if trained and authorized, ensuring safe and efficient movement of materials. Essential Skills At least 6 months of previous manufacturing experience, with food production experience preferred. Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day in a production environment. Experience with general production tasks such as machine operation, packaging, and packing. Ability to read, understand, and follow written work orders and production instructions. Basic ability to read and record digital weights accurately using a small scale. Capability to lift, move, and handle bags and materials weighing up to 50 pounds safely. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and general food or manufacturing production standards. Basic mechanical aptitude to operate and support production and processing equipment. Attention to detail for accurate measurement, documentation, and inspection of products. Willingness to work assigned shift hours, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedules. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in food production or food manufacturing environments. Experience operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment, if properly trained and certified. Background in cleanroom or controlled-environment production is a plus. Experience with troubleshooting basic mechanical or operational issues on production equipment. Knowledge of general labor practices in manufacturing, including cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas. Comfort working with inspection processes to ensure product quality and consistency. Why Work Here? You operate general production and packaging machinery, use small digital scales for weighing, and may work around forklifts and other material-handling equipment. The facility follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), with an emphasis on cleanliness, organization, and routine cleaning of equipment and work areas. Multiple shift options are available, including 1st shift (6:00 am-2:30 pm), 2nd shift (2:00 pm-10:30 pm), and 3rd shift (10:00 pm-6:30 am), providing a structured schedule in a production-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Owatonna, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.50/hr.
